Blog Story 1
The sunlight shrank behind the mountains as Tiapa pulled on the reigns of her horse. She finally made it home. Or so she thought.
She dismounted with what little energy she had left, being careful not to put too much weight on her wounded leg. "The bruising should be better by now," she hoped. As she slowly led her horse to some drinking water, the howls of a pack of wolves welcomed the rising moon.
Mayvania, a small farming town near Lake Ashlayne and Tiapa's childhood home. She could still remember with fondness the smell of her mother's freshly-made pies or the sound of children playing near their house. That was years ago; now all that was left of the once cheerful village was ashes and darkness.
Tiapa trudged through the scorched remains of her town as mist swirled around her. She saw a dark, cloaked figure far ahead of her in the darkness, and he appeared to be collecting something from one of the houses. She crept closer, and saw him skulking away with a small bag in one hand and something in the other that glinted in the moonlight: a serrated dagger.
"Stop!" she yelled with true Anguish. Ash flew from the charred remains of nearby houses as if struck by a great wind, and her horse reared up in panic at the powerful sound.
The cloaked figure paused, far too briefly considering the Emotion she had charged into her Command, then broke into a run.
Tiapa wasted no time as she jumped back on Jaza, her Ulkarian steed. Pain shot up her leg, but her years of training with the Shadow Chasers had instilled in her an ability to suppress pain and focus on the hunt. She whispered "Stun," Infusing a simple bolt that she loaded into her crossbow.
This was no ordinary bolt and crossbow. Each bolt could be fused with energy - some might call it magic, but Tiapa knew it was only a transfer of her energy to the gems in the shaft.
She could feel the tingle of sapped strength in her good leg, the price she had to pay for Infusion.
